Kitty Rescue

I was in my garage today and up came Little Miss Blackie as I call her, a local stray who’s been around the neighbourhood for months. She’s tiny and really cute, all full of purrs and looking for attention.

I gave her a couple of pets and then heard my dog inside bark and a little streak went by me. Once it slowed down, I realized it was a tiny little filthy fluff ball of a kitten, probably no more than 4 months old. Another stray. And it’s probable that it was the offspring of Little Miss Blackie.

The kitten was definitely ferile and very skittish. I went into the house quickly and came out with some stolen food from my own Sasha’s bowl. Both the cats were all over me – starving. I managed to entice the baby to move closer and closer to me with the food and finally, I was able to catch her. I brought out Sasha’s pet carrier and popped her in there. Then, I coaxed Little Miss Blackie to get some lovin, picked her up and she was added to the cage as well – none too happy I must admit.

We don’t have an SPCA in town, but we do have a wonderfully kind and giving vet who has a cat rescue centre. I just knew that the kitties wouldn’t make it very long with the cold weather and snow coming, so we took them there.

We walked into the office and told them we had a couple of strays. Oh my, they said. It’s completely full. I talked Rob into coming with me and he said, “what would you like us to do with them?” She said she didn’t know. Cool. Then she called another lady out from the back and said we’d have to talk to her. Well, she’s a softy and couldn’t turn us away once she looked into the carrier and saw those cute little kitties looking back at her. They asked for a donation, because Dr. Sue (Dr. Susan Andrus) takes these cats in, treats, feeds and cares for them out of her own pocket. We were happy to assist. Dr. Sue’s our on vet and we simply adore her. She is amazing with our animals and it’s obvious how much she loves them.

I’ve been talking about volunteering at the Cat Rescue centre for a while now but have been reluctant because my Sasha  is 10 years old now and I’d hate to bring something nasty home to her – some kind of disease maybe. So, I was talking to the lovely gals there today, and as we chatted about the website, they said they had no one to update it and add pictures as they receive new cats. Light bulb moment! I can do that! So, I will be calling Carol, the office manager to set all that up. I’m excited to be able to help in some capacity.

I see that  the site’s down today, so I’ll have to see what we can do about that. In the meantime, if you can find it in your heart to make a small (or large) donation to the Cat Rescue Centre, I know they and the kitties would greatly appreciate it! Just send me an email to pam@pamivey.com  and I get you set up!

Jake’s Commencement

Yesterday, I was off to a commencement ceremony for my youngest – my step-son, Jake. We were up at 5:30am in order to get beautiful and then hit the road to make the two hour drive to the event. When we got to the hall, we called Jake to find out where we could meet him in the crowd and can you believe, we woke him up! He forgot about his own graduation day! Boys, I’m telling you…

He said, “I don’t think I’m going to make it.” and Rob said, “Young man, you better get your butt in the shower, throw on a shirt and tie and get down here FAST!” Well, that certainly lit a fire under him and he made it in about 20 minutes. He wasn’t the only late grad. We saw him escorted to the back row with two other tary classmates. Sheesh, I remember my college commencement. I think I was dressed and prepped a couple of hours before I had to leave because I was so excited.

His mother had worked the night before so she was still in bed and he didn’t mention it to his sister, Christine. We called Christine at work and she dropped everything and was there in about 15 minutes.

In the end, everything went on without a hitch and Jake walked across the stage to shake hands and be presented with his diploma, graduating from the Police Foundations program at Durham College. (Way to go, Jake!)

So, here are the three of them, Christine, Jake “The Grad”, and Rob. My world.

Tony Robbins – Tiny Changes Mean Huge Results

I’m a big Tony Robbins fan. Anyone who’s that positive and obvious in wanting to help others is awesome in my book. Here’s a video of Tony talking about the incredible things that can happen from just little bitty changes.

“The difference between butt ugly and beautiful is 2 millimeters…”

Snowman Mania in Wasaga Beach!

Today, Rob and a few of his colleagues at Coldwell Banker Trinity Realty took part in the Chilli Cook-Off as part of Wasaga Beach’s 6th Annual Snowman Mania.

It sure was a cold one today, blustery and frigid but fun was still had by all. There were 12 teams entered in the cook-off and although I’m not a fan of chili, it sure smelled really good! Alas, our group didn’t win the contest but we had fun anyway. Here are some pictures from the event today:

John Lennon – 30th Anniversary of his Death

The following images were taken in Prague, Czech Repulic as we entered into the old city.  The concrete wall spanned the length of the street and was covered in spray paint and messages from visitors. This relief of John Lennon was the only such relief on the wall.

Today would be a great day to reflect on the impact that John’s music, celebration of peace, love and life has spanned across generations and continents.
