Wasaga Beach – A Winter Wonderland

I just can’t get over the amount of snow we’ve received since Friday – it really hasn’t let up any and I heard on the news that it won’t begin to taper off until later tomorrow. The kids are on day 4 and 5 of glorious snow days (why can’t I be in school!) and we’re starting to show new muscles from all the shovelling!

This is quite a contrast. Here’s a shot that I took this past August at the beach down the street from me when my sister-in-law and her husband were visiting from Copenhagen:

And here are shots from just a few minutes ago…

My back deck – I just shovelled that last night…AGAIN. Ugh

Yep, those are our cars. Rob’s Honda Accord’s on the left, buried right up to the bumper and beyond, and it’s hard to make out my Lexus SUV under that mountain of snow. The killer? We actually went out for dinner last night (it was our 10th anniversary =) so the cars and the driveway were cleaned off. This is just the overnight accumulation! Eek…call in the Coast Guards!  LOL

I know it was inevitable but I was hoping only to see snow say on the 24th of this month and melted away by the 26th or 27th. I guess I got punished for having the odacity to think like that in ski country. =)

I can’t say that I’m esctatic with the results and I’m very disappointed at the number of people that voted in my town. I’ve learned that less than 30% turned out last night. I’m surprised at the low number, as I stood in line for over an hour in order to take my turn at the touch screen to select my favorites.

I was hoping for a little change but it doesn’t look like people were ready for that in our little town of 16,000.

Hmmm….should I run in 4 years?

Loris Lapping it Up

Oh my gosh…I just couldn’t resist posting this. Is this Loris one of the cutest things you’ve ever seen? (Note: It’s illegal to own a loris as a pet – and really quite mean too – they’re wild animals)

A Virtual Assistant Journey – The Series, Part I

I was working for a “Corporate Canada” company for several years as international administrative coordinator, contracts administrator and office manager and I hated my job. Not only was it not challenging (something I thrive on) but I referred to my boss as “Satan’s wife”. Managing by intimidation was her style and it seemed to boost her ego each time she beat my confidence level down a little more each day.

Not an ideal scenario for someone with a ton of ambition and the smarts to offer so much more to the company. Every time I tried to introduce a new idea at our senior manager’s meeting, I was dismissed as “just the little administrative gal”. (“Oh dear, that’s a nice idea but it’ll never work,” or “We don’t do marketing in this office, that’s for headquarters.” – What the heck did we do when we were selling our services to potential customers, doing trade shows, etc.? No marketing at our office? Hrumphhh).

Well, this little administrative gal had already seen greener pastures as an entrepreneur in her “previous life” (I had recently been divorced, forcing me to get that j.o.b.) and started researching different businesses I could possibly get into to get the heck out of my j.o.b. situation. The problem was, I had recently bought a house and my salary and profit sharing were really good. Something that keeps many of us hanging on longer than is often better for our sanity, health and the common good.

I needed to find something that would cover my mortgage and give me enough room to buy little luxuries like groceries and utilities…
